Summer Intern Series: Julia Simons

The Summer Intern Series Continues! Our second intern spotlight shines on Julia Simons, our Communications Intern from Indianapolis!

School: Indiana University

Major: Marketing, minor in Apparel Merchandising

Role at DEFENDERS: Communications Intern

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Dark Chocolate Raspberry

Passions: Traveling is probably the biggest passion of mine. I have traveled tons of places in the United States and just went out of the country for the first time this summer to Budapest. After that trip, I hope to have the opportunity to continue seeing the world. In addition to traveling, I have always had a passion for fashion, food, and volleyball.

Favorite place you’ve traveled: Budapest, Hungary for an International Business class.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be and why? The entire cast of the show Friends. I could pretend I was the 7th friend in their iconic group.

What’s your favorite thing about working at DEFENDERS: I love how positive and laid-back the culture is at DEFENDERS. Everyone is so approachable and friendly. The minute I walked into Culture Day, I could tell that all the speakers were really passionate about their jobs which I’ve never seen so strongly in a company before. It makes coming to work here every morning so enjoyable!

What kind of projects are you working on this summer: This summer, I am mainly working on communicating with all DEFENDERS employees throughout our different internal channels. This includes creating content for our intranet website, launching a new “Our Culture” page, building an employee engagement scorecard, and updating employees on anything new and exciting going on in the business. Along with communicating internally, I have been creating content for our social media sites and connecting with all of you!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years: In 10 years I will be 30 years old. I hope to have a husband and kids at that point in my life along with a career in business that I love. I don’t want to be someone who bases success on the amount of money I make or my title in the company, but someone who positively affects the lives of others through my work.

Lastly, take a SELFIE with your manager!
